The Vacancy

Do you want to make an impact on the oceans leading the work of Marine Stewardship Council in the Central Mediterranean region? Do you have excellent management skills and strategic thinking? If so, this could be the opportunity for you.

The MSC is an international NGO that has been working for more than 25 years to promote sustainable fishing. Its international team is composed of highly skilled and motivated professionals who work to drive positive impact in the world’s oceans. The program engages fisheries, supply chains, governments, academia, NGOs, media, and consumers.

The Program Director Central Mediterranean will lead a consolidated team, strengthening the relationship with stakeholders, following the implementation of the strategic plan of the organization, and raising the awareness of MSC at all levels.

 

To be successful in this role, we are looking for a senior candidate with:

  • proven management experience,
  • strong communications skills
  • a deep understanding of the Central Mediterranean seafood sector, and
  • experience in the food sector, preferably seafood.

Working at the MSC

The MSC’s vision is for the world’s oceans to be teeming with life, and seafood supplies safeguarded for this and future generations.  Today, the impacts of overfishing and climate change pose an even greater threat to the ocean and fish stocks. Through our internationally recognised certification and ecolabeling program, well-managed sustainable fisheries are recognised and rewarded throughout the seafood supply chain. Over 700 fisheries around the world, representing 19% of the annual global marine catch, are now engaged in the MSC program and MSC certified and labelled seafood products are now available in over 66 countries. Through partnerships and collective endeavour, we are on a mission to end overfishing.

Fisheries science and marine biology:

Working to develop our standards and with fisheries undergoing MSC assessment

Supply chain management:

Overseeing our work in product integrity and helping to develop our Chain of Custody Standard

Marketing and communications:

Supporting our mission by growing awareness of sustainable seafood and the blue MSC label

Seafood sourcing:

Working with commercial organisations to support their buying commitments

Logo licensing:

Working with partners in more than 100 countries to ensure that our label is used correctly

Data and IT:

Running our reporting tools and systems
